The band's ultimate success was contingent on Lukather and Steve Porcaro.

In 1987, Toto played the Montreux Jazz Festival and continued to tour. In the same time the bassist David Hungate quit the band to focus on his session work and music production career. He was replaced by guitarist/vocalist Steve Lukather.
